RE: Membership Fees

Dear Members

At the last committee meeting on 2nd December 2019, the committee discussed membership fees. The Club has dealt with and is facing a number of expenses, as follows:

Repairs to the roof £3850, Painting the outside wall in Belmont Place £1500, New carpet for the members’ bar £7500 and Kitchen renovations – new cooker and warming ovens £5750.

It has been agreed, therefore, that the membership fees need to be raised. We cannot cover all these expenses just by income from the Members bar and hall lettings. We need to keep the building in a good state, and that way we will attract more lettings and increase our income.

As from 1st January 2020, therefore, the membership fees will go up to £16.00 per year for members under 65 years and £10.00 for the over 65’s. It is worth bearing in mind that other clubs in Portsmouth are charging membership fees of £26.00 to £40.00 per year, so our prices are still very good.

The decision on this rise in membership fees will be taken to the next AGM in June 2020 for ratification. Your cooperation and support is appreciated.

With best wishes

The Irish Club Committee
